Frequently asked questions

WHAT DOES MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH YOU LOOK LIKE?

A typical visit includes a discussion about your health history, a physical examination, and a discussion of next steps including lab work, treatments, and referrals, as appropriate. Acupuncture, bodywork, and injection therapies are often part of a first visit depending on the conditions being treated.

can you bill insurance?

No, Cottonwood Natural Medicine does not bill insurance. We can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Can you prescribe pharmaceutical medications?

Yes, as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, I can prescribe the majority of pharmaceutical medications. Some medications are excluded from my prescription rights including opioid pain medications and benzodiazapines.

How does a Naturopathic doctor compare to an MD or DO?

Similar to an MD or DO, an ND (Naturopathic doctor) completes a 4 year degree program, which is often followed by a medical residency. The basic medical education is similar for the first two years of training. The major difference is that an ND has much more training on use of holistic treatments including nutrition, herbs, supplements, bodywork, and others. NDs also do a rigorous study in pharmaceutical education, and use pharmaceuticals when appropriate.
